Autumn always arrives with a bang in Pennsylvania! Fall foliage in central PA comes in a gorgeous array of reds, oranges, and yellows. The best way to enjoy fall foliage is to see it for yourself. We’re eager to share our favorite spots for fantastic views.
We’ve curated a road trip guide to help guests get the most out of the fall foliage near our inn. Pack your sweater (and camera) and get ready to explore!
Why See Fall Foliage in Central PA?
Central Pennsylvania has a lengthier and more vibrant fall foliage season than any other place in the United States. The region’s unique topography and abundance of over 134 tree species contribute to the beautiful scenery it sees every autumn. Visit us between October and early November — when our gorgeous fall colors peak. However, precise timing varies based on weather.
Scenic Drives
Several beautiful destinations are available for driving tours, starting from our central Pennsylvania location. Planning a scenic drive is like choosing your own adventure. You can spend a few hours on a short trip or plan a full-day adventure in our nearby state forests.
We recommend heading north to Worlds End State Park for a shorter drive. Located in Loyalsock State Forest, this road is just an hour’s drive from the inn. The park has views of fall colors at Loyalsock Canyon and High Knob Vistas.
If you want a day-long experience:
- Continue on PA-42 to Eagle’s Mere, a historic mountaintop community by Eagle’s Mere Lake, known for its historic homes and the Eagles Mere Museum.
- From there, head south on PA-42 to the intersection with 239 and then southeast toward Benton, about a 30-minute drive away.
- Stop by Colonel Ricketts’ Green Acres Barn in Benton for handcrafted cider made from local apples.
Afterward, take PA-487 south along Fishing Creek. You’re only half an hour from Bloomsburg, where you can visit the unique Twin East and West Paden Bridges over Huntington Creek, just off PA-487. Finally, return to PA-487 and follow Fishing Creek back to Bloomsburg and the inn, where you can finish the day with dine-in service or at our restaurant.
Hiking Trails
Enjoy the many fall foliage hikes just a short distance from The Inn at Turkey Hill. We recommend our guests hike the well-maintained forest trails at Montour Preserve to relax and enjoy the scenery:
- The Chilisuagi Trail is a four-mile loop around Lake Chillisquaque. This trail has fantastic views of the lake and fall colors, with a mostly flat terrain suitable for hikers of all skill levels. In October, look for migrating red-tailed hawks, white-tailed deer, and Witch Hazel flowers. In November, you may spot wild Canada Geese.
- The Goose Woods Trail, a 0.9-mile flat walk, takes you past the Sugar Shack, where the preserve produces maple syrup in spring. Like the Chilisuagi Trail, this is a great place to see some wildlife.
There are so many things to do in this area. Besides hiking trails, the preserve has stands of sugar maples, a fossil pit, fishing and boating opportunities on the lake, observation blinds, picnic tables, playgrounds, pavilions, restrooms, and a Visitors’ Center. Consider stopping at one of the many local farmers markets for fresh products to enjoy at Montour Preserve’s picnic areas.
