Celebrate PA Wine Month at the 7 wineries on Central Pennsylvania’s Wine & Foliage Trail from Friday, October 4, 2019 through Saturday, October 13, 2019. Each of the wineries on the Trail will offer a special wine pairing with a tasty autumn treat. On the Trail, you can sample some of Pennsylvania’s great dry, semi-sweet and sweet wines, plus our region’s many fruit wines. Visiting all 7 wineries on the Wine & Foliage Trail enters you into drawings for one of the 7 wine-themed prize baskets, plus a Grand Prize basket.
North Central Pennsylvania is known for “aromatic white wines, dry reds and various sweet selections with great freshness, fruit-driven flavors, and vibrant acidity. Pinot Grigio, Traminette, Chambourcin, Lemberger, and Cabernet Franc prosper.” (Pennsylvania Wines Fact Sheet). The Inn, Farmhouse, and Brewing Co. at Turkey Hill in Bloomsburg is conveniently located for touring these Columbia and Montour County wineries and fall foliage in the scenic countryside along the Trail.
Shade Mountain Winery & Vineyard (Danville, PA location), a family-owned and operated winery, offers a wide selection of red, white, blush, and fruit wines. Many are made from locally grown grapes and fruits. Award winning wines in recent years include the 2017 Chardonnay and Chardonnay NV, 2016 Edelweiss (Valvin Muscat Ottenl), 2016 Lemberger and 2015 “005”, plus the 2016 Smokehouse Apple.- Red Shale Ridge Vineyards Winery (Danville, PA location), also offers a wide selection of red, white, blush, and fruit wines. You can sample whites from Pinot Gris and Chardonnay to Traminette and Vidal, reds from Cabernet Franc to Nouveau Chambourcin, and fruit wines from Strawberry to Spiced Apple.
- Juniata Valley Winery in Mifflin, PA, is new to the 2019 Wine and Foliage Trail. Recent medalist wines include their 2016 Happy Sloth (Mango and Catawba blend), 2015 Four Kings (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chancellor and Chambourcin), 2015 Morning Thief (strawberry), and 2016 Blueberry Bunting.
- Colonel Ricketts Hard Cider Winery in Benton, PA, specializes in unique barrel-aged ciders at their family-operated winery.
- Freas Farm Winery in Berwick, PA has earned many awards at wine competitions such as the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. Recent winners include Bulldawg Blues (blueberry), Forget Me Not (Rose), Joy (Red Vinifera) and Queen of Tarts (cranberry). Wine lovers can enjoy their indoor and outdoor seating with fire pit while you sample their award-winning wines.
- Purple Cow Winery features their sweet and fruit-based wines at its eclectic tasting room in Bloomsburg. . During Pennsylvania’s foliage season, their outdoor area makes a great place to sip some wine while enjoying the scenic views.
- Three Dogs Vino, also in Bloomsburg, stocks a variety of white, red, and sweet/fruit wines to suit every palate, including wines on tap. Their tasting room offers scenic views overlooking a lake.
