Summertime is Made for Kayaking the Susquehanna River

We can’t think of a more relaxing way to spend the day than
on the river. As you’re gently paddling along, you can slowly take in all the
beauty that makes this area surrounding our Inn so special. If you’re lucky,
you’ll spot wildlife such as eagles, otters, beavers and deer.

And without a
doubt, you’ll return home re-energized and ready to do it all over again. If
you don’t have your own kayaks, there are great local companies where you can
rent boats, and also book guided tours.

Susquehanna Outdoor Adventures (SOA), based in Bloomsburg,
has 30 kayaks for rent for either a half or full day. Two-man kayaks are also
available. The family-owned business has more than 40 years experience on the
River, so is super helpful in directing visitors to the best places to ply the
river. Besides rentals, SOA also offers packages, and group and family
discounts.

Riverside Adventure Co. is another family-run operation,
based on the banks of the Susquehanna River in the aptly named Riverside, PA,
about 20 minutes southwest of Bloomsburg. Besides kayak rentals, the company is
known for their guided paddling trips. The stretch of the river they call home
was designated one of National Geographic
Magazine’s
“Best Adventure Destination for 2012.”

One of the most popular tours is a Danville to Sunbury trip
that takes about 4 ½ hours and travels approximately 15 miles. The leisurely
excursion allows for time to fish along the way, and includes a picnic lunch on
an island. Deer, waterfowl, eagles and other raptors are abundant along this
stretch of the river, so your chance of seeing wildlife is excellent.

Kayaking trips are great for couples just wanting to spend a
little quiet time together, but they’re also a wonderful activity for families
and reunions. If you’re planning either kind of getaway, give us a call to stay
at the Inn. We’re just minutes from the river and all the fun.
